Meet Blake and Madison
Blake and Madison’s journey to the altar is a beautiful witness to the power of conversion. As adult converts to the faith, this wedding wasn't just a celebration of their love; it was a public commitment to establishing a domestic church. No matter what our pasts are, God calls us to Himself, and these two have embraced His will in their lives. They are intentional, fun, and sacrificial. They approach their vocation with a deep seriousness, yet they maintain a joy that is infectious, a balance that is essential for a holy family. They've been together for quite some time and share a wonderful son, Alexander. Watching them embrace the faith as adult converts and make this profound commitment to leading a Catholic family was incredibly moving.
Their wedding took place on November 8, 2025. The day started off with a cloudy, cool morning, but by the time their nuptial Mass concluded, the sun had broken through, warming up the rest of the afternoon. We were just past the peak of fall foliage, which provided a colorful, natural backdrop for the day's events.
Their Catholic Wedding Mass
Blake and Madison's nuptial mass was at the historic St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, Kentucky. It's a beautiful church, and I particularly loved all the marble, how bright the interior was, and the large painting of the Crucifixion above the tabernacle. If you get a chance, you should do some reading on the history of this Church. The Diocese of Bardstown was the first inland diocese of the United States when Baltimore was subdivided into Boston, New York, Philidelphia, and Bardstown (which then became Louisville).
Their Novus Ordo mass was celebrated by Fr. Randy Hubbard, and the weight of the two becoming one was apparent right from the start. I don't think a single parent remained dry-eyed as Madison was presented to Blake before they entered the sanctuary together. The mass was beautiful, and they both approached it with true seriousness and focus. In our planning calls, we discussed the importance of the Eucharist to them, specifically their desire to receive Our Lord on the tongue as a sign of humility and reverence. What could be better than doing that right after exchanging your vows? After their vows and receiving the Eucharist, Blake and Madison were quick to smile when making eye contact. Seeing that balance of taking the Mass seriously while displaying true joy really emphasized for me how we ought to respond to the truth of marriage as a unique sacrament between husband, wife, and God.
The Celebration
Following the Mass, we kept the portraits on the basilica's property, utilizing the beautiful interior and the grounds. Some of my favorite photos from the whole day were in the entrance of the church just after they had walked down the aisle! That look of pure joy and accomplishment on their faces was just so awesome to witness. It was also very sweet to see Alexander running around, trying to get hugs and snuggles from Blake and Madison whenever he could. Even with all the busyness, they both made him feel loved, and it really showed their heart for him and their desire to do right as a family.
The reception was held right next door at Flaget Hall. Madison and the family handled all the florals and a lot of the decorating themselves. Even though they were thrifty with the setup, you wouldn't have known it. They did a fantastic job, especially with the table setups! The afternoon was very relaxed as guests got to enjoy a classic barbecue meal catered by Mark's Feed Store. Want an easy way to this photographer's heart? Give him barbecue!
